The update maintenance history of the web site is as follows:

Changes

Major re-coding exercise to overcome 2 significant technical problems:

    1.    Take out the use of "Frames" as these are not supported uniformly by browsers other than Intenet Explorer.

    2.    Improved the coding so that it is usable by the following web browsers - Firefox, Opera and Netscape.

Lots of work going on in a development mode.

First of which, is a new "Download" menu option. This is designed to make the transfer of documents and images easier - some quite large in size.

I have divided up the various reasons for downloads into the following categories:
                        - Personal (my own backups etc.)
                        - Family History Class (Handout Notes etc.)
                        - Family (Downloads available for connected family)
                        - Clients (Family History Clients)

Each group will have a User Name and Password that is required to access the download files.

This is always going to be a case of - "Work in Progress" and it is nigh impossible to find a "good" place to break off and provide an update - but, here goes:

The last update generated some interest on the Embling line (Janet's side), where I only had two named entries before, with contact from Hilary Halstead who set me to looking at Ancestral File which led to the Pedigree Resource File, I have now added over 400 Embling names and spouses (back to 1729) showing branches spreading from Wiltshire to the USA, Australia, Wales and Staffordhire. Almost all of this information has come from a Pedigree Resource File submission by Douglas Shingleton - of USA origin; and although I have traced (via the internet) a telephone number, address and two email addresses for Douglas, none of them are current - any information on how to contact Douglas would be of great interest.

Also added are 3 biographical sketches that have been sent to me - see a new "Biography" option on the main menu bar. Each article describes what information I know about the authors - if any one has any contact information for any of these authors, I would be delighted to receive it.

There has been some additional info added to the Millar line from the "Bird" family (from cousin Elizabeth). I am still looking for contributors to bring the current generation information up to date for all connecting branches to the Millar line.

The referenced scanned sources on Janet's line have been expanded from 28 scanned source images to 115 (and there is still more to come!).

My grateful thanks to all those who have taken an interest with comments of support and information. The next phase will be to tidy up some more source information for this large batch of Embling additions and then I would like to move on to expanding the photograph albums for the all lines - please send me your contributions.

This update is exclusively concerned with changes to the page and screen formats to better cope with varying screen resolutions - and, to improve the navigation - hopefully to make it more intuitive.

Other reported spelling mistakes have also been corrected.

There have been reported difficulties with some new breeds of internet browsers (used instead of Internet Explorer from Microsoft) - for example - "Mozilla" cannot access the source or photo images. Seems to not be able to access any file that is not in the first level of the root directory; "Opera" opens up all links in a new window and not within the nominated "frame" of the host screen.

Please keep any corrections or reported problems coming.

I shall concentrate on the previous objectives as noted above.

This is the launch version of the site.
The data is not yet as complete as it could be - but it is a never ending task and I think it is better to launch now otherwise it will never happen!

I will be working hard to add the data I still have not put on, namely:

  1. More source data.
  2. More complete and better integration of the "Strange" data recently supplied by Paul Gray.
  3. More photographs - particularly a Hughes/Strange album

And I would hope that, as a result of this site on the web, that I will have some new material sent in - from you - to make the picture more complete.
